Aren't they amazing? I found some on ebay a couple years ago and was enthralled. It's such a unique kind of artwork.
Now, while the dolls themselves enchant me, I must admit to being somewhat creeped out by those women who actually buy them and treat them as infants. Some women put them in prams and walk about with them and have whole nurseries set up for the care and maintenence of the doll-- feedings, changings, etc. That bothers me.
Oh, yeah, I get the creepiness factor, although I think it's more sad than creepy, really - these women who can't let go of that point in their lives or are trying to replace a child they've lost. It was a youtube preview of a UK show about them that introduced me to the whole concept, and that was, indeed, kind of a freak show, though sad. I didn't realize it was a huge art/doll collecting phenomenon until I looked it up and was amazed.
